In 2014, the Yankees blew away the competition with their enormous international free agent spending spree. The top prize of that spree was 16-year-old Dermis Garcia, a 16 year old Short Stop and native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Garcia made his debut in 2015 short-season ball as a 17-year-old, playing 69 games and batting just .159 with 2 extra-base hits, both doubles. This year, though, it has clicked.
Garcia has homered in four straight games and through 72 at-bats in 22 games, he is batting .264 with 10 home runs and 15 RBI. He also has a .386 on-base percentage.
He has yet to steal a base, and has struck out in 32 of his 72 at-bats against 13 walks.
Most scouts believe he will ultimately shift to Third Base or a corner outfield spot. He is definitely a prospect to keep your eye on.
