Updated – The Chapman Trade: What We Know So Far

The Yankees are close to trading Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs, and have reportedly agreed to a deal that is contingent upon Chapman negotiating a contract extension with the Cubs (4 years and 60 million seems to be the starting point).

Here is what is believed to be a part of the deal so far:

Cubs receive:
Aroldis Chapman

Yankees Receive:
Gleyber Torres, SS
Jeimer Candelario, 3b
RP Adam Warren

Torres is the Cubs #1 prospect.  He is 19 years old and is batting .275 with 9 HR in single-A, but is due for a promotion soon.  He could be in the majors in a year or two and has been compared to … Derek Jeter.

Candelario is a 22 year old switch-hitting 3B, who has appeared in 5 games for the Cubs this season and has been a slightly above average minor league player.

Adam Warren, of course, pitched well for the Yankees before being dealt for Starlin Castro, but has not pitched well in Chicago and was recently demoted to AAA.

Last night, however, the news broke that the deal may be expanding.  According to a few Yankees beat writers, the Cubs have asked for Nathan Eovaldi and are dangling Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.

Soler was once a top prospect but has struggled mightily this season, and could end up being the Cuban Aaron Hicks.

No matter how this deal goes down, it’s expected to go down today before the Yankees take the field in Houston.

Update:

The Deal is Finished.

Cubs receive:
Aroldis Chapman

Yankees receive:
Gleyber Torres, SS
Billy McKinney, OF
Adam Warren, P
Rashad Crawford.

Chapman has NOT signed an extension with the Cubs and is open to returning to NY as a free agent.
